Sperm Count and Semen Volume Tips

40% of infertility issues are caused by the male, according to the National Institutes of Health.  Some recommendations Trent has found:

  • Abstinence (larger ejaculate volume and effect against STDs)
  • Physical exercise and strength training. Exercise may help with:
      - testosterone levels
      - blood circulation
      - depression
  • Maintaining body weight within recommended body mass index (BMI).
  • Avoid smoking/second-hand smoke.
  • Avoiding prescription, non-prescription, and non-medicinal/illegal drugs.
  • Limit pesticides and other dangerous chemical exposure.
  • Avoiding steroids, artificial hormones, unnecessary vaccine/booster shots.
  • Avoiding excessive time in saunas, hot tubs, tight clothing, very warm bedding.
  • Managing stress, depression, finance, and debt.
  • "Environmentally friendly" household products such as "green"  (non-toxic/biodegradable/VOC free) home cleaning products, laundry detergents, and dish detergents.
  • Hygeine (washing hands, etc) in order to prevent common sickness which may weaken the reproductive system.
  • Avoiding directed man made-radiation and possible DNA damage from:
        - CAT scans
        - non-routine medical X-Rays
        - excessive air travel
        - prolonged cell phone usage
        - excess UV exposure
  • Increase knowledge from:
        - scientific journals
        - medical research
        - developments in reproductive science
        - government health organizations
  • Protect the specimen
        - sterile containers
        - use immediately
        - unfrozen

Above all, have a hunger for life:

The countries with the highest fertility in the Americas are Honduras, Guatemala, & Haiti.   Less

  • wealth
  • educational opportunities
  • luxuries and comfort

often translates into a struggle and strong desire for life.

Interestingly, the countries with the least suicides in Americas are also  Honduras, Guatemala, and Haiti

Can Crotch Length Predict Sperm Strength? - Medicine Net, March 4, 2011
  • "126 college students in upstate New York."
  • "The median AGD was about 52 millimeters"
  • "Twenty-five percent of the sample "had sperm concentrations that would have sent them to a doctor for an infertility work-up"

Anogenital distance - Wikipedia
  • "Women who had high levels of phthalates in their urine during pregnancy gave birth to sons who were 10 times more likely to have shorter than expected AGDs"
  • "An abnormally short male AGD (lower than the median around 2 inches (52 mm) have seven times the chance of being sub-fertile as those with a longer AGD. It is linked to both semen volume and sperm count. Those with lower AGD than median also increases in the likelihood of undescended testes, and lowered sperm counts and testicular tumors in adulthood."

  • "Measuring the anogenital distance in neonatal humans has been suggested as a noninvasive method to determine male feminisation and thereby predict neonatal and adult reproductive disorders."
Short Anus-to-Scrotum Length Predicts Poor Sperm Count - WebMD, March 9, 2011

  • "Men whose anus-to-scrotum distance is shorter than average are 7.3 times more likely to have low sperm counts than men with a longer anogenital distance."
  • "Swan's team studied 126 young men (most were 19 years old) "
  • "One surprise from the study was that nearly a fourth of the young men in the study had low sperm counts."
